The biggest beef in 2016 has everything to do with music but not in the way you may think. Music streaming services are competing for your subscriptions and let’s just say, things are getting pretty petty.

Tidal, Apple Music, and Spotify are currently the top streaming platforms, they have been going toe-to-toe with each other to prove which has the best service to use.

Once Tidal put Jay Z’s name on their board, they definitely bought themselves way more attention. Who had really heard of Tidal before Jay z co-signed? Jay Z being the face of Tidal put Tidal in front of a new audience, who eventually were forced into becoming new users due to the exclusive releases.

Apple Music has also been doing exclusive releases. Just recently, Frank Ocean released his new album Blond as an Apple exclusive release. Other artists such as Drake, Adele, Chance The Rapper, Kanye West, and Beyonce have also done exclusive releases on certain streaming platforms.

Spotify seem to be the only service not really capitalizing off these exclusive music release deals, however, it’s being rumored that Spotify may be striking back against these deals. The streaming service is being accused of keeping the artists who make these deals out of their search results. Basically, Spotify isn’t necessarily going out of their way to help promote and market the music of the artists who make deals with their competitors. Well, Spotify definitely wins the most petty award for now.

Let’s see how far this “music beef” will go. What’s your favorite music streaming service to use?
