John Schnatter founded Papa John’s Pizza decades ago. However, he has stepped down as the CEO (but will remain chairman) after some comments he made concerning the NFL national anthem protests.

According to Schnatter, the protests were responsible for Papa John’s decrease in sales. "NFL leadership has hurt Papa John's shareholder. This should have been nipped in the bud a year and a half ago", he said during a conference call in November.

Of course he apologized afterwards.

Schnatter obviously could care less about the protests except for when it comes to his money. Stepping down from CEO is a good play when it comes to redeeming Papa John’s "image"  but let's be real, Papa John’s popularity went down the moment Domino's Pizza switched up their recipe.

Nice try John, nice try.
