The highly anticipated Tupac biopic was officially released in theaters Friday (June 16), on Tupac Shakur’s birthday. The promotions around the film painted the picture that we would be getting the most authentic version of Tupac’s life that could be given without the actual input of Pac.

Directed by Benny Boom, All Eyez on Me birthed a whole lot of expectation and hype. Tupac Shakur will always be mentioned among the greatest in hip hop because of his music and who he was as a man. Pac was someone who defied every stereotypical label and destroyed every box by being ignorant and educated, and tough and poetic. His presence was revolutionary for the culture of hip hop.

His story is bound to be one filled with complexities, rawness, and mind-blowing truths, and maybe Tupac is the only one who could ever really tell that story. The film All Eyez on Me was supposed to be something that really put the light on who Tupac was, however, that may not have been the case according to Jada Pinkett-Smith.

She took to her Twitter page to tweet her thoughts on the new Tupac movie. She started her tweets off with, “Forgive me... my relationship to Pac is too precious to me for the scenes in All Eyez On Me to stand as truth”. She went on to say, “The reimagining of my relationship to Pac has been deeply hurtful”. Many are second guessing going to see the movie now, on top of mixed reviews, you now have a key figure of Pac’s life coming out and saying the storyline lacks truth.

Once the numbers and reviews roll in after the opening weekend, we will see if All Eyez on Me is one for the history books, or just another failed attempt.
