Fyre Fest Flops: The Greatest Music Festival That Never Happened

You may or may not have heard of the Fyre Festival. It was supposed to be a luxury music festival that took place in the Bahamas over the course of two weekends.

Entrepreneur Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule were apparently the brains behind the whole operation. Their goal was to make the festival a “once-in-a-lifetime musical experience”. However, things didn’t really go as planned. In fact, according to reports, the music festival ended up being a complete nightmare for most.

Blink-182!, Major Lazer, Migos, G.O.O.D Music, Tyga, Desiigner, and others were set to perform at Fyre Festival. There were even Instagram influencers like Kendall Jenner promoting commercials that advertised the festival. With ticket prices starting at $1200, attendees were told to expect an amazing first-class experience on an exclusive island. What those who actually made it to the island ended up getting, was the complete opposite of everything they were promised. Many took to Instagram to post videos and photos of what they were experiencing.

Of course, the festival was cancelled, so those with tickets were left stranded on the island with tents as shelter and little to no food.

Rapper Ja Rule released a statement on his IG page assuring people that the festival was not a scam, and he also made sure to add that he was not responsible, even though he was one of the men behind the whole idea.

There’s a possibility the festival may not have been a scam, but it was severely poorly executed. You would have thought the curators would have went above and beyond when it came to making sure accommodations were secure, especially sense attendees were required to spend so much money for the experience.

None of the things advertised were experienced according to attendees. This is a very bad look for Ja Rule, he’s already been struggling to get a little glimpse of the spotlight he once had. This incident has definitely ruined his chances at any type of redemption.

As far as Fyre Festival, it sounded good in theory but that’s about it.

The curators have promised to refund everyone’s money.

Since yesterday, they have updated their website with a detailed account of why the festival flopped. You can read it here. In the update, promises of a bigger and better 2018 Fyre Festival has been announced.
