This election will be the most memorable and the most talked about for years to come.

On the night of November 8, 2016…

Millions of people anxiously awaited the official results of the 2016 presidential election. As the results from the Electoral College rolled in, everyone across America was holding their breath, you could probably cut the tension that swept the nation with a butter knife.

Would we get the ‘liar’ Hillary Clinton, or the ‘misogynist’ Donald Trump as our new leader? This was where the state of our country rested. The campaigning and the actual election came wrapped up in lots of tension and anxiety. The results caught many by surprise, while confirming a few unsettling truths for others.

Our new leader of this alleged free world was announced, Donald Trump was elected as the 45th President of the United States of America.

Who could have predicted the “You’re Fired” hairpiece wearing tycoon actually being our president one day? Well, since America seem to have turned into its own reality show, maybe Trump was simply the best candidate to properly carry on the buffoonery that has already plagued the U.S.?

So what do we do now?

Get a passport and run is the obvious choice, however, don’t forget this is your country too. The results of this election should at least remove the veil from the eyes of those who’ve been ignorant about the current state of this country for so long. Someone like Trump being able to run for president and actually be taken seriously as a candidate, should tell you a lot about the mindset of the majority of the citizens in America. Perhaps, people have forgotten the foundation this country was built on?

Perhaps, people thought bigotry had escaped our soil? Or maybe people just decided to find comfort in the false ideal of America actually being "the land of the free and the home of the brave”?

Trump becoming president should be an alarm, not to spark fear, but to ignite solidarity. History has shown, members of the black community tend to stand more together while under pressure to do so. While travesty shouldn’t be the only thing that can truly unite us, it’s time to progress. This wakeup call should be an eye opener, this isn’t time to point fingers at each other, it’s time to strategize and build. America was never constructed with the betterment of our people in mind, we must take our freedom into our own hands. This isn’t an ending, it’s the beginning of a new revolution.
