Betsy DeVos Has Officially Been Sworn In As Secretary Of Education

Betsy DeVos is now the United States Secretary Of Education.

Who is Betsy DeVos? A billionaire GOP 'funder' from Michigan.

She has set-up a number of educational programs and pushed various agendas and policies that take away from funding public schooling while investing more in private education. The public school system of Michigan has suffered and failed under her policies. Her interests seem to lie more in only protecting and aiding private Christian schools, and less in implementing policies that aid public schooling.

She is also the woman President-elect Donald Trump requested to become the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, but with Trump’s request, came some resistance from the cabinet. However, it was Vice President Pence’s vote that served as the tiebreaker that gave DeVos the position. This was the first time in senate history that a VP had to intervene when it came to appointing a cabinet nominee.

DeVos’ track record when it comes to education isn’t a great one, so it’s odd that Trump wanted her as Secretary Of Education, but it’s not really surprising. It seems Trump may just be putting his buddies in office, because none of his choices have had any type of track record to prove that they could, or would actually serve the United States properly.

It will definitely be interesting to see how the government will be ran during the duration of trump’s presidency. So far, he hasn’t made any decisions that would be that beneficial for citizens of the United States.
