A College Professor Will Be Offering An English Course On Hip Hop Group OutKast

Regina Bradley, an Armstrong State professor with a P.H.D in African American Literature and background in pop culture, has decided to offer lessons on OutKast for her English course.

When asked what sparked the idea for the course, in an interview with Pigeons & Planes, Bradley responded:

When I was first introduced to hip-hop studies, the conversations leaned heavily on northeast and west coast artists and culture. As someone from Albany, GA, I wanted to know why there were no conversations about the artists I listened to growing up in the South. This course reflects my need to see more of my experiences as a southern hip hop enthusiast in scholarly conversations about hip hop in general.

The professor will be using the legendary hip hop group’s music to explore “contemporary southerness” and how hip hop can be used for political expression.

The course will be held on Armstrong State campus in Savannah, Georgia, which also happens to be the birthplace of Big Boi.

Making courses more relatable to students seem to be a growing trend now and we hope it continues to spread to more colleges and universities.
