2 Live Crew was a Miami hip hop group who lit the music charts up upon their arrival on the scene. Their lyrics were raunchy and controversial and people absolutely loved it. As Nasty As They Wanna Be was their most controversial and most successful album.

The group consisted of DJ Mr. Mixx, Brother Marquis, Fresh Kid Ice, and

Uncle Luke, well Luke Skyywalker originally. They sold millions of records in the late eighties and made records that will forever be embedded in the history of hip hop.

Unfortunately, Fresh Kid Ice died at 53 this past Tuesday (July 11). There’s very little details on the cause of death, but 2 Live Crew’s manager Debo has reported that it was due to “medical conditions”.

Shortly after confirmation of Fresh Kid Ice’s death, Uncle Luke tweeted out:

“My condolence goes out to the family Chris Wong Won Fresh Kid Ice of the 2 Live Crew who just passed away people we lost a legend.”

Fresh Kid Ice is “often credited as being the first prominent Asian rapper.”

Hip hop has lost another one.

Rest in Peace Fresh Kid Ice.
