John Legend And Tika Sumpter Will Executive Produce ‘Black Wall Street’ Series

There’s been an influx of movies, television shows, and even songs and albums being developed and released telling the stories of African Americans, and shining light on how important representation is within the black communities.

The black voice in America isn’t always a voice that is heard or understood, and it is up to us to get our stories out there in order to tell our truths, in our own words, to the beat of our own drums, and from our own perspectives.

John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Company has partnered up with WGN America, with the help of actress Tika Sumpter to executive produce a Black Wall Street series.

The series will tell the story of the prominent black community that was developed in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the early 1900’s. The community became known as Black Wall Street due to it being the home of “one of the most successful black economies in American history”.  In 1921, the community was burned to the ground by a mob of white Americans, which became known as the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot.
