Yasiin Bey Set To Retire For Good This Time, Right After Cape Town Live Stream Show

Rumors of Yasiin Bey, the artist formerly known as Mos Def retiring has been floating around for some time now. However, it seems it just may finally be official. A few days ago, Mos Def did a live broadcast where he announced the cancellation of all of his upcoming European shows.

Earlier this summer, he was releasing tracks under an alias name via a Soundcloud account, which gave many the impression that he may not have been retiring just yet, but this time could possibly be the last time Mos Def/Yasiin Bey picks up the mic for real.

For the people who had already purchased tickets for the now cancelled European shows, he will be doing a live stream show from Cape Town that will only be available for those ticket holders. He will be performing unreleased material from his Dec. 99th project, as well as the classics we have all come to love, and he will also be accepting requests from fans. After this show, Mos Def will be retired from music for good, allegedly. He has plans to move on to other mediums such as fashion and films. It’s so sad to see such a major influencer of hip hop music leave the game, but I guess we all must move on and evolve at some point.
